Baltimore quilts: create an heirloom with us

Create your own Baltimore Sampler this month – we’ll show you how! Issue 37 of Today’s Quilter magazine comes with our Baltimore Quilts supplement, packed full of step-by-step instructions by author and teacher Shirley Bloomfield.

Baltimore album quilts have always wowed us quilters with the skill, time and amount of work that goes into producing these wonderful pieces of art. And, like many of you, we’ve been fascinated with this style of quilting for many years, but felt daunted about embarking on our own version of this tradition.

So we were delighted to get the chance to work with author and teacher Shirley Bloomfield when creating this issue’s supplement. Shirley, who has taught for many years in the UK and abroad, was inspired by these beautiful quilts to create her own range of designs, featuring an English twist on this American quilt tradition.

“I particularly enjoy developing dimensional flowers such as foxgloves, roses and water lilies to add to my appliqué Baltimore quilts supplement tasterdesigns,” says Shirley.

Rather than starting with a full-size quilt, Shirley creates smaller projects that are more achievable, like the gorgeous Baltimore Sampler she has designed for this supplement.

With Shirley’s hand appliqué masterclass and step-by-step instructions, you’ll master this vital skill as well as produce a stunning wallhanging for your home.
