Fabric giveaway! Be first in the queue to get the new Devon County collection

Devon County fabric blog

Exciting times! We’ve just received a beautiful batch of The Quilters’ Guild’s new Devon County fabric. The new collection was launched at last week’s Festival of Quilts and we’re giving away four fat quarters to one lucky quilter. Scroll down to enter…

The new range was revealed by The Quilters’ Guild to follow on from the success of last year’s Elizabeth’s Dowry collection. They’ve joined forces with Marcus Fabrics and designer Karen Styles to create the new fabrics – again taking their inspiration from the Mariner’s Compass Coverlet – one of the quilt treasures in The Quilters’ Guild Collection. The coverlet (1820 – 1829) is one of five quilts in the collection from the Dennis/Cann family from Devonshire, England. It’s a favourite among the quilting community not only because of its historic design, but because it’s fascinating back story.

As a personal tribute, designer Karen Styles, named the 22 individual prints in the Devon County collection for members of the Dennis/Cann family, along with the names of all the individuals who helped the line to come about, including “those who work at The Quilters’ Guild, my children and a group of women and men who have influenced me throughout my life.” Karen took inspiration from an eclectic mix of antique reproduction fabrics to create the new range… “they could fit into any style of quilt from reproduction to modern and all styles in between,” she tells us.

The new range not only captures the spirit of the original Coverlet and the prints of that era, but Karen has cleverly highlighted designs that have an almost retro feel to them. We’re already playing with these fabrics here on team TQ – look out for a special supplement coming later this year which will be featuring them!
